Isn’t today’s world amazing? Look at the wonderful advances today in medicine where people who are HIV+ can survive for years now, that while it is indeed still a death sentence it is on a par with maybe smoking cigarettes. Though really that isn’t fair, because smoking is still a hit and miss issue for cancer, HIV is not.
Yet somehow all this news about living longer with HIV or AIDS has made an impact on our community. I wonder how many today remember the decades past when it was known as a strange gay disease only? Do you remember how you would go to the bar and notice the empty bar stools as another member of the Gay Family had suddenly died? Or gotten so sick they couldn’t get out of bed when just a few weeks earlier they were out doing the hustle?
HIV is the precursor to AIDS and yet today, it is
treated by many, as simply one of those things, as something to deal with when its serious
